ROLLERSKI IN THE PHILIPPINES

"ABOUT MORONG NORDIC ROLLERSKI CLUB"

Morong Nordic Rollerski Club was established following discussions with the Philippine Ski and Snowboard Federation (PSSF), an organization dedicated to preparing athletes for prestigious international competitions such as the World Championships and Winter Olympics. Filipino athletes, hailing from various countries including the United States of America, Canada, Finland, and Austria, were identified as potential Filipino athletes. Recognizing the need to expand into summer disciplines, particularly Rollerskiing, the PSSF sought to diversify its portfolio by exploring the summer discipline of Rollerski.

In a series of discussions with the PSSF President, Jim Apelar, and the PSSF Director for Cross Country and Biathlon, Mr. Joselito "Jojo" Cruz, the idea of incorporating the summer discipline of Rollerski gained traction. Mr. Cruz, a Filipino-US Citizen renowned for his passion for sports and active involvement in community groups in San Guillermo Morong, Rizal, was entrusted with the task of spearheading the initiative. With the collaboration of dedicated youth leaders, the Morong Nordic Rollerski Club was officially founded.

Taking charge of the leadership in 2021, Mr. Brenz Nicole Sarmiento and Mr. Carl Nicole Nery, along with the support of Mr. Prennyboy Estrella and Lennard Polintan, played pivotal roles in steering the club's early endeavors. Mr. Cruz diligently sought support from the Filipino community in the United States, collecting contributions from family and friends. These generous donations enabled the acquisition of the first batch of Rollerski equipment.

Subsequently, by the club's progress, Mr. Cruz and the PSSF resolved to provide training opportunities for Philippine coaches, collaborating with international experts from Chinese Taipei, Germany, and Norway. Technical training sessions and firsthand exposure to competitions in Thailand further fortified the club's foundation.

After a year marked by trials, errors, and a wealth of experiences, the Morong Nordic Rollerski Club stands poised for success. The concerted efforts of its members, coupled with international exposure and rigorous training, have laid the groundwork for a promising future in the realm of Rollerskiing.
