One of the primary jobs of an official is to make the game as safe as possible. This can range from gear checks at JRDA events, to making sure there is a medic ready at events, to calling off the jam for an injury, to ejecting players for unsafe play.
In order to officiate for JRDA events, officials are required to have a background check, have completed concussion training, and in some areas, they are also required to complete the SafeSport training.

JRDA CONCUSSION TRAINING - I would recommend that every official, coach, and league representative complete this training, even for adult leagues.
The following gear is required at all practices covered by WFTDA and similar insurances, including JRDA.
All equipment must be in good repair and fit well. Pads should stay snuggly in place when tugged on.
Toe stops are NOT required equipment.
Mouthguards must be worn by skaters at all times they are on the track. Mouthguards should fit well and not slip off the teeth when talking. They should not be cut down.
Wrist guards must have a plastic insert or plastic supports on the palm side. The plastic inserts often slip out, which is why we have Juniors hit their wrists together to check to make sure the plastic is in place.
Knee and elbow pads must have a hard plastic shell free of cracks.
Helmets are some of our most important equipment, so they get their own section.
Helmets must fit well and not have cracks. Helmets should be multi-impact rated. Multiple IMPACT means the helmet can withstand multiple hits before losing its protectiveness. Bicycle helmets & rock climbing helmets, are not adequate protection. Helmets should be replaced after a significant impact, such as a hard hit to the ground or surface, especially one that results in a concussion.
Visors and shields must be translucent, opaque and iridium visors are not allowed. Wire hockey-style face cages are also not allowed.
