I have also applied my teaching philosophy to my administrative work with tutors, and I aim to not only develop the tutors I train as good tutors but also help them grow professionally and personally. I’ve done this by taking tutors to conferences, engaging them in research on tutoring that also would help their later careers and by having them work with individuals in their fields in relation to writing related skills. Tutoring develops so many skills that are applicable later, so I do my best to facilitate that skill acquisition. For example, I've recently had tutors who were entering Nursing school develop tutor training guides for nursing writing. Or I've had tutors interested in law school give other tutors a workshop on how to tutor law school personal statements. I've even had tutors majoring in Business Administration be a central part of our marketing for the Writing Center.
