When looking to move in with my fiancé, we were faced with the question whether it would be better to rent or purchase a home. We are willing to travel and settle in a new location but have a slight preference to the east coast near our families.
For the analysis I used a public dataset of Zillow's average rent and sale price month to month per state in 2019. The process begun with getting familiar with the data and filtering out Hawaii, Alaska, & Puerto Rico.
Next the data was analyzed by calculating the average rent and sales price for the year of 2019 rather than month to month. The findings showed that the most affordable states were the ones we weren't very interested in.
The next step was to filter out every state but New York, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, & Connecticut. Following that, the filtered and cleaned data was compared.
