I am an Associate Professor of Economics at Skidmore College. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Insper in 2010, my Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Brasília in 2012, and my Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2018. I have been teaching undergraduate economics courses for over 10 years.
Teaching is my passion. I approach economics as the science of sacrifice, emphasizing the choices individuals make under constraints and the trade-offs that shape both personal decisions and broader social outcomes. I am particularly interested in introductory courses, where I strive to connect economic reasoning with classic works of literature, Christianity, and philosophy, helping students see economics not just as a technical discipline but as a deeply human one.
My current research focuses on public finance, policy analysis, Latin American studies, and voting behavior. I have published in peer-reviewed journals in these fields, including Economic Policy, Journal of Development Economics, Economics & Politics, Economía LACEA Journal, and Latin American Research Review.
On a personal note, I have been with my wife, Aline, for over 20 years. We met while finishing high school, and she is the love of my life. We have been blessed with three wonderful children—Daniela, Paulo, and Maria—and I cherish every moment I get to spend with them outside of work.
