Welcome! I am a Development Economist working as a Research Fellow at UNU-WIDER, where I lead the UNU-WIDER Inequality theme.
My research sits at the intersection of education and labor economics, with a growing focus on tax policy and firm behavior. I use administrative and survey microdata to study how public policies and shocks — from affirmative action and training programs to climate and disease shocks — shape human capital, labor market outcomes, firm performance, and inequality.
Previously, I was an Associate Professor at the Federal University of Bahia, Brazil. I have led research projects in Brazil, Mozambique, South Africa, Tanzania, and Zambia, and work regularly with policymakers and international organizations.
