Information We Collect

- Photos and user content: rock, mineral, crystal, fossil, gemstone, or geology photos you choose to upload, plus optional notes, prompts, or field context.
- Location information: optional approximate or precise location if you grant permission, used for field context, maps, and saved discovery history.
- App activity and diagnostics: feature usage, app interactions, crash logs, diagnostics, performance data, device information, and technical logs.
- Identifiers: device identifiers, installation identifiers, analytics identifiers, AppActor/customer identifiers, and entitlement identifiers.
- Purchase information: subscription status, product identifiers, purchase events, renewal state, trial status, and premium entitlement information.
- Support information: your email address and any information you include when contacting us.
How We Use Information
We use information to:
- Identify rocks, stones, minerals, crystals, fossils, gemstones, and geological finds from photos.
- Provide AI-generated explanations, confidence signals, lookalikes, field clues, and geology notes.
- Provide Rock GPT and other AI assistant features.
- Save and display history, notes, favorites, map entries, and collection data when you use those features.
- Manage subscriptions, trials, premium access, purchases, and restore purchase functionality.
- Improve app reliability, security, fraud prevention, analytics, diagnostics, and customer support.
- Comply with legal, platform, tax, billing, and app store requirements.
AI Processing
When you submit a photo, prompt, field note, or question, that content may be sent to our backend and AI service providers to generate an identification or response. Do not upload content that you do not have the right to share or that contains sensitive personal information.
AI identification may be inaccurate. Rock Identifier is for educational and informational use only and should not be used as the sole basis for safety, commercial, legal, medical, scientific, or financial decisions.
Sharing Information
We may share information with service providers that help us operate the app, including cloud hosting, AI processing, analytics, crash reporting, subscription management, payment entitlement services, customer support, security, and app infrastructure providers.
Purchases are processed by Apple App Store or Google Play. We do not receive or store your full payment card details.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to enforce our terms, to prevent fraud or abuse, or to protect users, our rights, and platform integrity.
Data Retention
We keep information for as long as needed to provide the app, maintain subscription and entitlement records, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, improve services, and support users. You may delete local history in the app where available or contact us to request deletion of app-related personal information.
Your Choices
You can:
- Grant or revoke camera, photo library, and location permissions in your device settings.
- Manage or cancel subscriptions through Apple App Store or Google Play.
- Request access, correction, or deletion of personal information where applicable.
- Limit analytics or tracking through device privacy settings where supported.
Children’s Privacy
Rock Identifier is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can delete it.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
International Processing
Your information may be processed in countries other than your own. By using Rock Identifier, you understand that information may be transferred and processed where our service providers operate.
