All Star Game
Carson Zenger and Tucker Gehrt participated in the KABC All Star All State Game Wednesday, June 6 on the red team. It was a close game with the red team beating the blue team 9-8.

Mustangs Receive All-State Honors
Four Rock Creek Mustangs were honored with state awards this week. Carson Zenger was named Class 4A-II Player of Year and earned first Team All State for the third year in a row. He is hitting .597 (40 of 67) with 32 RBIs and nine doubles. Zenger, the team’s starting shortstop, also posted impressive numbers on the mound. Senior Catcher Tucker Gehrt joined Zenger on the first team. Gehrt, who also earned a second-team selection as a sophomore, is batting .483 with 35 RBIs in his final campaign.
Junior pitcher Ian Russell was named to the second team, while senior first baseman Derek Shaheen netted honorable mention honors. Russell has a 6-0 record with 32 strikeouts, and Shaheen is clubbing .438 with 29 RBIs.

Mustangs Give Back
The Rock Creek baseball players recently visited St. George Elementary first and second graders to read aloud books to them as part of the giving back to the community.
A huge congrats to our Two Time All State Short Stop on officially signing with Barton Community College! He’s in great hands with Coach Biggs and staff. We can't wait to watch him grow as a person and player!
Marysville Game Highlights
Carson Zenger hits one over the fence. Toby Becker threw 3 shutout innings only giving up 1 hit, 0 BB, and 2 K's . Derek Shaheen hits his first ever home run.
Austin DeWeese had a 3 RBI triple in game one, Derek Shaheen hit his 2nd home run of the year, and Carson Zenger had an RBI single in the top of the 7th to break a 4-4 tie before closing out the game. Toby Becker took a no-hitter into the 5th before giving up 2 runs on 3 hits. Zenger threw the 6th and 7th.
In game two Brooks Whaley and Aidan Lee worked out of trouble the first 3 innings before giving way to Ian Russell throwing 3 2/3 innings giving up no earned runs on 4 hits and no walks. Carson Zenger had a big day at the plate going 3-4 with 4 RBI and two doubles. Skyler White scored 2 runs, Derek Shaheen was 2-3 and Tucker Gehrt had a 2 RBI double
Cameron Minihan threw a no-hitter in game 1 striking out 7 guys in 3 innings. Austin DeWeese threw two hitless innings in game 2 before Brooks Whaley closed the door giving up one hit in the 3rd. Big nights at the plate were had by all as the Mustangs scored 36 runs on 29 hits including Toby Becker’s first Home Run of the year in game 2. Carson Zenger was 6-6 on the night with 6 RBI, Derek Shaheen was 3-3 with 6 runs scored, Tucker Gehrt was 4-5 with 2 doubles, a triple, and 4 RBI, Cameron Turnbull was 3-3 with a double, Nate Williams 3-3 with a triple, Cam Minihan had a 2 RBI double, Austin DeWeese 3-5 with a triple and 3 RBI, and everyone in the lineup scored a run in game 2.
St. Mary's Highlights
2 RBI single by Derek Shaheen and a 3 run Home Run by Sky White. White was the MVP of game 1 going 3-3 with 4 RBI, a home run, a double, and 3 runs scored. Austin DeWeese and Cameron Minihan both had two hits and scored two runs. Toby Becker went 4 innings giving up 2 runs on 3 hits with 4 strikeouts and one walk to earn the win. Carson Zenger earned the save throwing 3 innings giving up 3 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits with 3 BB and a strikeout and was recognized for earning the school RBI record with 95 RBI's.
Game 2 saw the Mustangs jump out to an 8-0 lead early as they scored 5 runs in the 2nd inning. Everyone in the starting lineup either scored or drove in a run. Derek Shaheen scored 2 runs and had an RBI, Sky White had an RBI and scored a run, Tucker Gehrt had a big 2 out, 2 RBI single in the 2nd inning, Nate Williams reached base every time on the night with 5 hit by pitches and 3 walks, Karter Carlson had a double in game one and an RBI single in game 2.
Clay Center Highlights
Game 1- Toby Becker started on the mound having 6 hits and 3 strikeouts. Four runs were scored. The defense did a phenomenal job especially Austin Deweese and Cameron Minnihan up the middle knocking balls down. The outfield was kept busy as Clay Center hit it in the gaps a few times. Carson Zenger came in for the save with one hit and no runs scored. The Mustangs were hitting the ball keeping Clay Center's Offense busy. Carson Zenger went 2-3 with a triple scoring 2 runs with one RBI. Derek Shaheen went 2-3 with a triple, 2 RBI's and a run. Tucker Gehrt had a 2 RBI double. The Mustangs finished a close game winning 5-4.
Game 2 started with Carson Zenger on the mound with no runs scored, 5 hits, and 3 strikeouts. Ian Russel came in to relief pitch having 2 runs scored on him with 2 hits, 2 walks, a walk, and 2 strike outs. Clay Center then struggled to get their hitting going. Aidan Lee closed the game with 0 runs earned with 0 hits and one strike out. Offensively the Mustangs came alive with Carson Zenger going 2-3 with 2 runs and an RBI. Tucker Gehrt went 3-4 with 3 RBI's and a double. Derek Shaheen went 2-3 with 2 runs and an RBI. Caden Churchman went 2-3 with 2 RBI's. Skyler White went 2-4 with 2 runs. Brooks Whaley had a RBI double. The Mustangs won 10-2.

Riley County Highlights
Game 1 was close throughout before Riley had a 2 out single in the bottom of the 7th that was the difference in the game. Toby Becker threw a complete game giving up 4 runs (3 earned) on 9 hits with 2 K’s. Offensively Carson Zenger was 3-3, Tucker Gehrt was 2-3, and Caden Churchman had a solo Home Run.
Game 2 saw the Mustangs respond with a 3-1 win behind Carson Zenger’s 5.1 IP, 1 run, 2 hits, with 7 strikeouts. Cam Minihan earned the save throwing 1.2 scoreless innings giving up 1 hit with 2 strikeouts. The Mustangs were limited to just 3 hits in game 2 but made them count. Nate Williams was 2-2 with a HUGE 2 RBI double in the 6th inning to break a 1-1 tie. Both games were well played with great pitching and defense.
Big wins last night over Rossville that locked us in as the #1 seed in regionals. Game 1 got off to a great start with the Mustangs taking a 6-0 lead after 2. We got a little complacent and Rossville put some good swings on the ball in the 3rd and 4th tying things up at 6. We responded yet again with 2 runs in the 6th and 7th to take a 10-6 win as Ian Russell earned the win and Cameron Minihan earned his second save in as many games. Minihan helped himself at the plate going 2-3 with 3 runs scored. Carson Zenger was 2-4 with 2 RBI and 2 Runs scored and Tucker Gehrt was 3-5 with 4 RBI and a double.
Game 2 was won in dominant fashion as Caden Churchman went 3-3 with 5 RBI and 2 Home Runs! Carson Zenger also provided a 2 run Home Run and 4 RBI and Derek Shaheen was 2-3 with 5 RBI. Brooks Whaley, Tucker Gehrt and Cayden Figge allo had doubles as well in a 22-2 win over Rossville. Nate Williams, Aidan Lee, and Brooks Whaley all pitched an inning in the win.
Game 1 saw the Mustangs jump on the Red Raiders with 4 runs in the 1st, 3 in the 2nd and 5 in the 5th on their way to a 15-2 run rule victory in 5 innings. Austin DeWeese threw 5 innings giving up 2 runs (one earned) on 4 hits with NO WALKS and 4 strikeouts. Offensively Tucker Gehrt led the way going 3-3 with 4 runs scored, 2 RBI, and a triple. Toby Becker was 2-3 with a double, 3 RBI and 2 runs scored. Carson Zenger also contributed a double while DeWeese helped himself with 2 RBI and a single.
Game 2 was another run rule victory for Rock Creek as they pounded out 11 more hits in a 13-0 win. Freshman Mason Sturdy threw 5 shutout innings giving up 4 hits with NO WALKS and 2 strikeouts. That’s correct, we played 10 innings of baseball and had NO WALKS! Hats off to pitching coach Jared Ayres and our pitching staff for having the depth to get through a VERY CRAZY week with 6 games in 4 days. Offensively Toby Becker was on FIRE going 4-4 with a 3 run Home Run (it was a BOMB!), a triple, 5 RBI, and 2 runs scored. Caden Churchman was 2-3 with a double, RBI, and two runs scored, and Austin DeWeese was 2-2 with an RBI and a run scored.
Regionals- Clay Center Kansas- 5/15
Game 1 last night saw Ian Russell absolutely dominated on the mound in a 10-2 win over Marysville. Ian threw 6 innings giving up 2 runs (none of which were earned) on 4 hits with only 1 walk and 12 strikeouts!! Cam Minihan closed out the game throwing a perfect 7th inning with a strikeout. At the plate the Mustangs were led by Sky White who broke the game open with a bases loaded triple in the 3rd inning. Skyler was 2-3 with 3 runs scored and 3 RBI. Caden Churchman provided a double and an RBI and 8 different players scored a run in the game…a total team effort.
The championship game was an 11-4 win over a very tough Clay Center team. The Mustangs got going in the 3rd inning with Brooks Whaley leading things off with a hard hit ball followed by bunt singles from Skyler White and Cameron Minihan to load the bases with no outs. Derek Shaheen doubled to left center to score 2 and get the Rock going. Shaheen finished the game 2-4 with a double and 4 RBI. Cameron Minihan was 2-3 with 3 runs scored and a double and Carson Zenger and Tucker Gehrt each had multiple hits in the game as well. Caden Churchman provided a big 2 RBI double in the 5th as the Mustangs won their 5thstraight regional title and qualified for the state tournament in Salina next Thursday and Friday.
