See how the small Kent seaside town of Hythe has changed - and stayed the same - over the past 35 years.
I have lived in or near Hythe since the age of 15. While working for ELSE, a French students’ organisation, in 1985 I went around with my camera taking photos of the town for a brochure advertising language courses.
I rediscovered the photos during Lockdown in May 2020 and decided to walk around the town and take new photos from the same viewpoints. As not all parts of the town featured in the brochure photos, I have included a number of shots taken during the cold winter of 1987 and in the aftermath of that year’s Great Storm.
None of these photos have ever been published before.
