Introduction:

These tutorials are designed to teach students the basics of using the Spike Prime or Lego Mindstorm EV3 robots. There are currently 17 video lessons that will start with the basics and cover how to use the motors, the ultrasonic, color, touch, and gyro sensors.

Click the "Spike Prime Lessons" or "EV3 Lessons" tab in the top navigation to see all the lesson tasks and videos.

How to Use the Tutorials

Click the "Lessons" tab to find all 17 of the lessons and tasks.
Have the students watch the video for the task they are working on.
Each video will demonstrate the task and then explain the programming required for that task.
Students can then program their robot to perform the task for that lesson.
1. - Note: They can rewind, pause, and review the video as needed.
After each student has completed and tested their programming for the task, they should demonstrate it to their coach.

Materials Needed:

Robots

EV3

EV3 Robot and bricks built from the building directions that came with the education kit (shown below). You can also find the building directions on the Lego website here: Robot Educator Building Directions

Spike Prime

Any Spike Prime robot will work. However I recommend using the Advanced Driving Base building directions the Lego website here: Spike Prime Building Directions (scroll down towards the bottom of that page). You'll also need the Dozer Blade, Lift Arm, and an Ultrasonic Sensor attachment on that page as well. I use a modified version of the Advanced Driving Base that also has an Ultrasonic sensor attached to the front, a detachable touch sensor, and two color sensors that can be pointed forward or down.

Task Area

The white surface area can be any smooth white surface. It can be any size but should be large enough for the robot to have plenty of space to move around within.
I use these 92cm x 182cm (does not need to be that exact size) white plywood boards that I found in a local hardware store.
Use the electrical tape to mark lines as needed.

Other Materials

A white surface area with different colored electrical tape(black, blue, red, green & yellow).

Plastic cups or any solid object that you can use for obstacles.

A Lego wall or any solid obstacle or wall for Task #15.
