Camp 2017 Minifig Challenge

Challenge 2: 2 Motor Car

In this activity, students will develop a two motor robot that will move towards LEGO minfig and work to get as close to the minifig as possible without running him/her over. The minfig will be place on one of three spots to have students consider using sensors to develop coding.

Challenge Explanation

Using the floor tiles in your space or by taping off a track yourself create a space that has a starting line. This starting line is where the robot must begin. The entire robot must start behind the line.

We will measure three locations of about 30 cm/12 inches for three potential LEGO minifig locations. Students will either flip two coins or create a spinner with three choices. Each heads result moves the minifig back a spot. Place the minfig and allow the student to run their robot.

Scoring is as follows if you would like to keep score

Scoring starts with 100. For each .1 cm of distance away from the minifig subtract 5 points. The end goal is to score 80 points.

If you want you can add 5 bonus points for each mark placed back for a total of 10 extra bonus points.

Build a 2 Motor Car Rubric

Bronze

A two motor car was designed and built.

Silver

A two motor car was designed and built that can move towards a minifig. Robot scores less than 70 points

Gold

A two motor car was designed and built that can move towards the LEGO minifig using an ultrasonic sensor to prevent the robot from knocking over the minifig. Robot can score 70-80 points

Platinum

A two motor car was designed and built that can move towards the LEGO minifig using an ultrasonic sensor to prevent the robot from knocking over the minifig. Robot can score 80 points or higher.
