COMMAND STRUCTURE

The command structure is hierarchical with divisions and brigades responsible for administering groupings of smaller units. Major Units are regiment or battalion-sized with minor units being smaller, either company sized sub-units or platoons.

CHIEF OF THE DEFENCE STAFF

The Chief of the Defence Staff is the professional head of the British Armed Forces and is the chairman of the Chiefs of the Staff Committee.

CHIEF OF THE GENERAL STAFF

The Chief of the General Staff is the head of the British Army and chairman of the executive committee of the army board.. The post is immediately subordinate to The Chief of Defence Staff, the head of the British Armed Services.

DEPUTY CHIEF OF THE GENERAL STAFF

The deputy professional head of the army and vice chairman of the executive committee of the army board. Provides oversight of the Army Operating Model and provides overall personnel policy direction as the Principal Personnel Officer.

FIELD ARMY

Field Army is responsible for generating and preparing forces for current and contingency operations.

HOME COMMAND

The core purpose of Home Command is to be the foundations of the Army's fighting power; delivering the physical, moral and conceptual support to the Army.
