In the field of education, diversity is very important because it should focus on inclusion and create a positive learning environment. A diverse school setting does not only focus on the background and culture of one student, but focus on all students and their experiences. As educators we should recognize and value all of our students' diverse backgrounds, and use that to encourage them to be expressive in the classroom.
As I am learning and preparing myself in the classroom, I am seeing that being an educator plays a huge role in the lives of our students. We are not only teaching the curriculum, but also being a leading example for how they should carry their future selves. Not all students look the same, learn the same,or come from the same lifestyle, but it is up to the teacher to make sure they have the same positive learning experience. By doing so, teachers should be creating the same positive learning experience for all students, and to achieve this you will have to learn all your students personally.
Something that I have witnessed in the classroom that would be a great idea to use so I can practice diversity in my room is, hosting one on one interventions with my students. This gives me a heads up on where the student is with certain lessons, as well as where they are mentally. It also helps with classroom management, which plays a key role in a diverse classroom. You want to be able to reach each student's needs, so you want to be able to connect with them personally.
Being aware of diversity and having a clear understanding and inclusion in your everyday task as a teacher will help you achieve great things in the classroom. From the beginning we are taught to get the instruction out and teach the lesson, but as an educator you should know it isn’t that simple. We have to reach deep into our students' past learning and experiences to truly understand their thought processes. If teaching were easy, everyone would do it. It takes a special person to be able to learn a student and teach them in a way to help them understand. All students do not learn the same, so that’s why teachers are always learning new ideas and techniques to help better our students.
