Screen Capture and OCR
Smart Search Browser Edge uses the macOS Screen Recording permission only when the user manually starts the OCR search feature and chooses to capture a selected area, the full screen, or the frontmost window.
The app captures one still screenshot for each user-initiated request. It does not continuously record the screen, capture audio, operate in the background, or monitor user activity.
The captured screenshot is processed locally on the user’s Mac using Apple’s Vision framework to recognize text. The screenshot itself is not uploaded to our servers, shared with third parties, sold, or used for advertising, analytics, profiling, or app improvement.
After OCR processing, the recognized text is used as a search query. The recognized text may be sent to the search provider selected by the user, such as Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, or Yahoo. DuckDuckGo or Bing may also be used to retrieve search-result links. These third-party providers process the search query according to their respective privacy policies.
The screenshot is held temporarily in the app’s memory to show the user a preview. It is not saved to our servers or permanently stored by the app and is removed when cleared or when the application terminates.
Recognized text may be stored locally on the user’s Mac as search history. Users can delete individual history entries or clear all search history from within the app. This information is not stored on our servers.
Screen Recording permission can be revoked at any time through macOS System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording.
Our mobile application may collect both user-provided and automatically collected data, including device information and usage behavior. This data is used to improve performance and user experience.
Users may opt out by uninstalling the application or changing device settings.
We implement reasonable physical, technical, and administrative safeguards to protect your data. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
