About Me
About Me
I was born in the Philippines, raised on Guam, grew up some more in the Bay Area (San Francisco, Daly City, and Oakland). Through my father’s influence in art and poetry, I imbue my works, both literary and visual, with the color and vibrant imagery of the tropics. I trained as a traditional illustrator in the mid 80s and migrated to digital media from the early 90s to the present. My short fiction and poems appear in anthologies and collections published by CUP Poetry, Devil’s Party Press, the News-Gazette, and The Alchemist Review (UIS). In addition to revamping my artistic career, I focus much of my love and energy on my wife, children, pets, and experiences and activities that I enjoy.
I have heard throughout art school and my career that to be successful, an illustrator should have an established style, but even illustrators with established styles (the look & feel of the artwork) have managed their careers by going outside this zone. Upon looking at my various portfolios, you may get the sense that I’m a generalist. I prefer to say that I am a specialist of multiple styles…this is not to say that my art doesn’t have a look and feel–this is most evident in my cartoons and cartoony illustrations.
