Relic was released in 2013. Roberta started it ages before that when she was a reporter, but she only wrote about three chapters. At the time, she was enamored with an estate in the small village of Wyoming, NY, named Hillside. She used it to inspire the setting for her story. She knew she wanted to write a story about how to find a friend, but was also fascinated that some local residents thought the mansion might be haunted. Put it all together, and you have Relic.
Eye of the Peacock was Roberta's second novel. She and her family had enjoyed visits to an estate in Canandaigua, NY, several times. About the fourth time they visited Sonnenberg Gardens, they decided to take a guided tour. Roberta found out the couple who built the estate had no children. She couldn't help thinking how much fun it would have been to grow up in such a home. Sonnenberg gardens became the inspiration for the setting, but the couple that owned this estate, had a daughter, Maeve.
During a day-cation to Letchworth State Park in NY, Roberta spotted a tree that seemed very unusual. The four main limbs branched out like a cupped hand. Climbing up into it, her youngest daughter declared it perfect for a tree house, and Roberta immediately conjured Emerson to live in that tree house. The Battle for Periphery is Roberta's first fantasy novel and has been described as Tolkein-esk. She is currently writing its sequel, The Curse of Periphery.
