Roberta was born and raised in Western New York. As a child, she spent her time drawing and creating adventures with her dolls. She played the violin for thirteen years, eventually giving private lessons to beginning students.
After high school, she attended Buffalo State University and majored in journalism with minors in criminal justice and the performing arts. She originally wanted to be a critic, but came to realize those jobs were difficult to come by. She found she enjoyed the news end of reporting and worked for newspapers for about ten years covering features, crime, and court cases.
She had thought she would eventually be an editor, but when she got the chance to fill in for a colleague on vacation, she found she missed the interaction with people, so she "retired" and returned to college to obtain a second bachelor's degree in English second education and a master's degree as a reading specialist. During her years teaching, she wrote her first book, Relic, in 20-minute bursts every day. After 28 years of teaching, she has now retired to write full-time. Well...she also crafts, haunts bookstores and estate sales, and loves to cook and bake.
Roberta lives in Western New York with her wonderful husband and two fantastic daughters.
