Tip #1: Study up on wildlife behavior.

More than having technical skills, professional wildlife photographers usually advise newcomers to study their subjects' behavior. Whether it's a predator or prey, the key is to pay attention to how their bodies move while in their natural habitat. While this means spending time observing, Robert Testagrossa agrees that this will teach photographers to anticipate an animal's actions before pressing the shutter effectively.

Tip #2: Keep the camera in your hands.

While having a tripod can make things more comfortable, especially when anticipating an event, Robert Testagrossa notes that it might be better to hold the camera in the wild. This will allow a photographer to follow the movement and quickly change the angle when the action starts. It's good to have a higher shutter speed and reduce the lens vibration to keep photos from blurring.
