The RMIT Basketball Club is a student-led organization open to university students and the wider community. It provides opportunities for players of all skill levels to play, train, and compete in various leagues and tournaments. Membership fees cover training costs like court hire, with additional fees for competitive play.
Weekly training sessions are held Fridays, 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM at Building L, Victoria University Footscray Park Campus, combining drills and casual games. While there are no beginner programs, experienced players support newcomers. Competitive team tryouts occur each semester, with teams competing in university tournaments and open leagues.
Beyond training and competitions, the club hosts 3v3 tournaments, skills challenges, and social events. Competitive players must commit to their teams, while casual members can participate freely. RMIT Basketball Club enrols multiple teams into MCBA, an Open League, to offer social players a chance to compete at a competitive level. With 9 men's grades and 2 women's grades. Games are held every Sunday at MSAC (30 Aughtie Dr, Albert Park VIC 3206), lasting 40 minutes each, with the earliest game at 4:30 PM and latest at 10:10 PM.
The season includes 18–20 rounds, plus 2 additional rounds for semi-finals and finals for the top 4 teams. Each team requires a minimum of 7 players, and spots are limited. Attendance at tryouts is mandatory to make the team.

1. What is the RMIT Basketball Club?

2. Who can join the club?
All university students are encouraged to join, regardless of skill level. We offer teams and activities for beginners, recreational players, and competitive athletes. Non-students are also welcome, though membership fees will differ.
3. Do I need prior basketball experience to join?
No experience is necessary! Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced player, there’s a place for you in our club.
4. How can I join the club?
Joining is simple—just complete your membership payment through our University Store . Once your payment is processed, you’re welcome to attend any of our training sessions at Victoria University, Footscray.
5. Is there a membership fee?
Yes, a membership fee is required to help cover court hire for training. The exact amount will be announced at the start of each semester.
6. Are there any additional fees?
Yes, competitive players will have additional costs, this includes:
Weekly scoresheet fees (~$80 per team)
Basketball Victoria license ($46 annually)
Uniform costs ($100 one-time purchase)

9. Do I need to bring my own basketball and gear?
It’s recommended to bring your own basketball and wear appropriate athletic gear. However, the club provides basketballs for training sessions.
10. Will there be training for beginners?
We don’t offer dedicated beginner training sessions, but prior experience isn’t required! Our club has a welcoming and supportive community, with experienced members happy to help newcomers learn and improve.

12. How can I try out for the competitive team?

Competitive team members must commit to tournament schedules and notify the team in advance if they need to miss a session.
