Dr. Jose Rizal sailed to Hong Kong onboard “Zafiro” and just stayed inside theship during its short stop in Amoy on Feb. 3, 1888. Rizal stayed at Victoria Hotel inHong Kong (not in sta. Mesa) and visited along a freind, Jose maria Basa, the nearbycity Macao for two days. Rizal experienced the noisy firecracker- laden Chinese Newyear in Hongkong and the marathon lauriat party characterized by numerous dishes being served.
