What was his "secret mission"?
On a letter of Rizal to his brother Paciano, he mentioned that he had another important reason for deciding to study in Europe. Calling it his "secret mission", he revealed that this secret was to observe carefully the life and culture, languages and customs, industries and businesses, and the government and laws of the European nations.
"Preparing myself for the mighty task of liberating his people from the brutality and tyranny of Spain."
