Private Lessons
It is recommended that all students take private lessons. This is the best way for students to enhance their musical knowledge and performance level. The most successful students in band almost always take private lessons. Most private lessons are taught at KHS, but some lesson instructors still teach over zoom or in rare instances at their house. Below is our list of lesson teachers (by instrument) and their contact information. Paying for private lessons is the responsibility of the student and their parents. There is a scholarship available for lessons from the band boosters, and you can contact the band directors for more information on that.

How do I join band?
Place band as your FIRST choice for your 6th grade elective. Be sure to tell your parents about your decision.
Is it ok that I don’t know how to play an instrument or read music?
Yes! All beginning band students are taught how to play an instrument and read music.
How will I get an instrument?
You will get to try several instruments at one of the instrument try-out nights. The instrument try-out nights will be on April 14th and April 15th. After an instrument is selected you will be given info on how to rent your instrument. Some large instruments are provided to you by the school. Most students rent instruments from our local music stores.
Does band take up a lot of time?
Nope! There is a small amount of daily homework. Other than that, the only thing you need to do is show up to class and a couple concerts.
Can I participate in sports while taking band?
Absolutely! There is not a conflict between athletics and Band. Many students participate in both
