The Honor Band consists of 7th and 8th graders in the Riverwood Band. The Honor Band is under the direction of Mr. Burleson with assistance from Mr. Maxey and Ms. Jones.
Students in Honor Band participate in before and after school sectionals. Sectionals allow the directors to have individualized time with each student.
Honor Band Sectionals
Below is the schedule for Honor Band sectionals for the Fall 2026 semester.
Sectionals are required for all students and provide an opportunity for the directors to work with students on a more individual level. These rehearsals allow us to give each student more specific feedback, strengthen their understanding of the music, and improve their overall knowledge and performance in band.

Students must enter through the Kingwood Dr. entrance.
Afternoon Sectionals

4:15 PM–5:00 PM
Students are expected to communicate with their coaches in advance if they will be missing practice in order to attend a sectional rehearsal.

Private Lessons
It is recommended that all members of Honor Band take private lessons. This is the best way for students to enhance their musical knowledge and performance level, and it is a great way for them to prepare for Region Band auditions and Solo & Ensemble Festival. Most private lessons are taught at RMS or KHS, but some lesson instructors prefer to teach out of their homes. Below is a list of lesson teachers (by instrument) and their contact information.
Paying for private lessons is the responsibility of the student and their parents.
