Track & Field is a diverse sport, where there's truly something for everyone. Whether your athlete is a sprinter, jumper, thrower, or long-distance runner, our program provides coaching and encouragement across a wide range of events. We focus on proper technique, confidence-building, and developing a love for competition and personal growth. Track is as much a team sport as it is an individual pursuit. Whether you're an experienced runner or just starting out, all students ages 6-16 (including homeschoolers) are welcome to join our track team! No tryouts required - just bring your enthusiasm, running shoes, and some water!
What to Expect at Practices:
Our practices include fundamental training, with event-specific drills and team activities. Elementary and Middle School students practice together, but are provided different challenges based on their age group and running level. We don't often have access to the track, so sometimes it can be a challenge to practice field events, but we do our best to train each athlete on each field event, and encourage athletes to try each field event at least once.
Practices include:
Running workouts that include sprints, distance, and relays.
Field event instruction to teach athletes long jump, shot put, softball throw, and more.
Agility & strength drills to ensure your athlete is light on their feet and ready to compete.
Interactive relays & games to boost energy and team bonding.
Warm ups, cool downs, and stretching to keep our athletes running safely.
Practice Schedule:
Practices are held 2-3 times a week. Times and locations subject to change based on weather or facility availability.
Tuesdays & Thursdays: 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM
Saturdays OR Sundays: On non-meet weekends, we will practice either Saturday or Sunday mornings or afternoons, depending on the availability of the high school track. Saturday vs. Sunday varies by season, availability, etc.
* The most up-to-date practice schedule for each season can always be found in TeamSnap for registered athletes.
*Due to limited RRHS track availability, we might have an occasional extra practice to allow our athletes time on the track to practice field events.
Competition Season:
We aim to compete in 6-8 meets throughout the season. Meets will either be on Saturdays or Sundays, beginning mid-March. Track meets are typically full-day events. We will share a detailed meet calendar with registered athletes once the season begins.
Athletes will compete by age group, and will have the opportunity to compete in both running and field events, allowing each child to explore different aspects of track & field. These events will help build strength, coordination, and confidence while offering a fun, varied experience.
We encourage every participant, whether they're focused on running or interested in branching out, to try new events and find their passion!
