For my capstone project (completed in spring 2026), I collaborated with a team to develop and present an educational campaign on conscious consumerism. We created this presentation to focus on how everyday purchasing decisions impact the environment as a whole. Our goal was to inform campus students about the effects of overconsumption and encourage more intentional, sustainable shopping behaviors. We designed and delivered a final piece that combined research, real-world examples, self-made advertisements, and practical strategies/tips to inspire both attitude and behavior change. We presented this to students and staff at IU Indianapolis and administered a post-event survey to gather takeaways and attitude changes.
Throughout the project, completion I gained hands-on experience in creating and administering surveys, then analyzing those results to shape our messaging and presentation tactics to better resonate with our audiences. I also strengthened my skills in research and collaboration as I was working closely with my group to develop cohesive content. We really wanted to deliver an engaging final presentation and that we did! This experience taught me the ability to translate complex information into clear, impactful communication while reinforcing my interest in strategic messaging. This was an entirely audience-focused campaign and I love to be able to inform others on relevant, real-world topics.
This group project (completed in spring 2025) is a complete public relations (PR) campaign plan completed by myself and two others in an online course. Our imitation client, Revive Rural, is a smaller organization that seeks to promote the great Midwest and all it has to offer while also increasing its followers. My group spent a lot of time doing research in order to develop our campaign regarding its messaging, branding, target audiences, goals, objectives, and more. After considering what we wanted to accomplish, we then created a list of tactics (ranging from billboard advertisements to monthly newsletters) we thought were most effective at reaching audiences and achieving our objectives. This list of tactics was organized into a fully-descriptive 12-week campaign calendar with set benchmarks, KPI's, and evaluation tools.
All in all, my group created a campaign that truly highlights Revive Rural and has the potential to maximize their reputation. Overall, our campaign seeks to create mutually beneficial relationships for both the organization and its publics -- exactly what PR is all about. I really love the public relations disipline.
This taught me the importance of utilizing constructive criticism. This was a course long project that required improvements and changes every week. It is important to apply the corrections given to present the best plan possible. I also learned how to work well in a group from remote locations. Despite never meeting in person, we were able to produce a great product through excellent teamwork and communication. Perhaps my biggest takeaway is that this project showed me that this is actually what I want to do in the future.
This group project (completed in spring 2024) looked into helping Indianapolis' homeless problem through social media and volunteerism. My group created an Instagram account that shared the facts and figures of the city's homelessness problem, infographics on how to help, various reflections of our time volunteering, and also provided resources to people interested in getting involved. We posted QRs code leading to the account around popular places on campus, such as Campus Center and Cavanaugh Hall. Furthermore, we also orchestrated an effort towards volunteering at two dinner services at Wheeler Mission. We each individually journaled about our thoughts before and after our time volunteering; we also included our first impressions of the overall experience. Both the Instagram and volunteer effort worked interdependently on one another.
In regards to communication, I learned how to put communication in action from research and planning to execution. I also was able to demonstrate bringing about positive change in the community using communication. Our group worked to spread awareness and advocate for volunteerism throughout the entirety of this project. As a result, we informed our audiences about the homelessness problem. We also were successful in gathering more volunteers, as two different sororities made plans to visit Wheeler Mission following our project's completion. I also learned how to work collaboratively in a group, as this group project had mutliple aspects that required different member contributions.
Volunteering here was my first volunteer experience in college and it left a lasting impression. This project truly brought the idea of working in a non-profit or volunteer setting to my radar. I found so much fulfillment and enjoyment from this project that I am now considering following the same path in the future. Find more information about volunteering at the link to the left.
This group project (completed in fall 2023) was hands down my favorite project in all of my college experience. This was one of my first communication courses in college as a first-year student. My group of three created a magazine with different pieces written by each person. These stories came from the each of us regarding our religious experiences, beliefs, questions, etc. Each member was responsible for writing three to four pieces to make up the contents of the diary and I took on the responsibility of creating the magazine design and transferring over the content.
I created The Devout Diaries (see linked buttons below) on Canva. This was definitely my favorite aspect because I enjoy creating visually appealing layouts, especially when the contents are self-created as well. I also love to write, so sharing my perspectives on such a taboo topic was very thrilling. The overall process of creating the final product came so natural to me. I would love to do such creation in a future career.
This again taught me how to work in teams. Depending on others is not something that comes easy to me, but this project set a great example of how to foster excellent collaboration and balance. I felt that this also was a great attest to my leadership; I naturally delegated tasks to my two team members that made the most sense in our dynamic. I was very flexible in offering my help to other sections and keeping us on a general due date schedule. Overall, it was one of my best group experiences to date and I remain very proud of what we created!
