My Approach to Workplace Health & Safety

Workplace safety starts with understanding hazards, assessing risks and taking appropriate preventive measures before an incident occurs.

As an entry-level HSE professional, I am developing my knowledge of occupational health and safety, hazard identification, risk assessment, workplace safety procedures and emergency preparedness through professional training and continuous learning.

My aim is to contribute to a workplace where employees can perform their duties safely and where hazards are identified and controlled effectively.

Key Areas of HSE Knowledge

Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment (HIRA)

I have studied the process of identifying workplace hazards, evaluating associated risks and selecting appropriate control measures using the Hierarchy of Controls.

Job Safety Analysis (JSA)

I understand the importance of breaking a job into individual steps, identifying potential hazards at each stage and determining suitable control measures before work begins.

Permit to Work (PTW)

I have studied PTW procedures for activities such as hot work, confined space entry and electrical isolation, with an emphasis on ensuring that required precautions are considered before hazardous work starts.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

PPE is an important part of workplace risk control when hazards cannot be adequately eliminated or controlled through other measures. I have knowledge of PPE selection, use and compliance.

Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)

I have developed basic knowledge of LOTO principles used to help prevent the unexpected release of hazardous energy during maintenance and servicing activities.

Work at Height

I understand the importance of planning work at height, identifying fall hazards and following appropriate control measures and safe working procedures.

Fire Safety & Emergency Response

My safety training includes fire safety principles, emergency response and evacuation procedures. I understand the importance of emergency preparedness, clear communication and safe evacuation.

Incident & Near-Miss Reporting

I have studied the importance of documenting incidents and near misses, identifying contributing factors and using the findings to help prevent similar events.

Behaviour Based Safety

Through Behaviour Based Safety Management training, I have learned about safety observations, identifying unsafe behaviours and encouraging safer workplace practices.

Toolbox Talks

I have knowledge of toolbox talks (TBT) as a way of communicating job-specific hazards, precautions and safe working practices to workers before or during work activities.

I believe effective safety management requires continuous observation, communication, worker involvement and improvement.

Continuous Learning

I continue to strengthen my HSE knowledge through professional certifications and training, including IOSH Managing Safely, NEBOSH IGC (in progress), ADSHERM (in progress), Behaviour Based Safety Management, First Aid at Work, Fire Safety and workplace safety compliance training.

I am committed to learning from experienced HSE professionals and developing practical skills through real workplace experience.
