I was born into a very caring family. I was the second child of my parents, Chris and Jennifer. My older brother, Cody, and I are six years apart so he knows a lot more about the world than I do. Six years after me, my younger brother Hayden came into the world. At the time, I was very upset about being the only daughter but now, I wouldn’t have it any other way. Being the only girl definitely had its downfalls because I was seen as the weakest to my brothers, so I got picked on a lot. It taught me not to take anything personally especially when someone was making fun of me or not being nice to me. I think I am much tougher than I ever would have been. When my brothers would irritate me, I always found refuge in my mom. She dried my tears and always told me to keep my head up. My mom was my role model growing up because she always knew how to handle difficult situations.
In high school, I am involved in many activities. I am in SADD, FCCLA, KAY’s, and NHS. I am currently the Class of 2021 Treasurer and the NHS President. All of these clubs helped me perform a lot of community service. I worked blood drives, raked leaves, made burritos, played games with little kids before school, and worked the crosswalk. Helping the community always gives me a sense of pride and can help inspire others to do the same. I have also been a two-sport athlete all four years of high school. I have loved playing both volleyball and basketball. They have taught me many life lessons such as being a leader and working together as a team. There have been many ups and downs when it comes to sports. My senior year is nothing how I imagined, but it has taught me that I can never take anything for granted because tomorrow is never promised.
As a child, I dreamed of being a doctor. I wanted to help people and I imagined doctors as superheroes. I wanted to be just like them. I went all through middle school and some of high school thinking I would pursue this dream. It wasn’t until my sophomore year of high school that I found a passion for numbers. I know, it is the complete opposite of medicine. I took an Accounting class and immediately fell in love. I loved everything about it and found the satisfaction in seeing the numbers match up and total correctly. I loved the structure and found it calming to calculate and punch numbers into a computer. I continued to take more courses like College Accounting and Marketing. I decided to further my experience and pursue a career in the business field. As my time in high school seemed to run out, I had to decide what I wanted to do with my life.
I have decided to further my education and the next four years of my life at Newman University in Wichita, Kansas. I will also be continuing my basketball career there as well. It has taken me many hours of consideration to make this decision. I made this decision based on many different factors. First, I fell in love with the campus and the city itself. Although it is a big city, the campus is smaller so it feels like a small town similar to my hometown. Next, I liked the basketball coach and the team itself. Everyone on the team treated me like family and that was very important to me knowing that I would be very far from home. As I look into my future, I know that it will not always be smooth sailing, but I know that I will have people in Wichita that have my back and will help me through everything. I expect college to be a time that I will grow into the individual I am meant to be.
