Focusing on the CULTURALLY RESPONSIVE TEACHING AND THE BRAIN Book Study

Within Theory, community members will engage in a facilitated Book Study to learn and reflect on Culturally Responsive Teaching, how it connects with the brain and brain science, and gain understanding about the Ready for Rigor Framework. Coupled with the Book Study, we will also utilize Springpoint’s Indicators of School Quality to begin to understand what an effective school looks like and how Zaretta Hammond’s text can help us to close the gap between where schools are and where we know they need to be.

By the end of Phase I, community members will understand how these concepts, frameworks, and tools will enable them to look differently at both their own teaching as well as the students in their classroom.

ESSENTIAL QUESTION

How does a better understanding of the brain help us become warm demanders for each and every student?
