"Summer 2020 is the strangest time.

we powered through the first wave of the covid 19 and we're now waiting for the second one.

Like on an ocean of doubt, we're floating adrift.

We sheltered in place in our houses, like on an island of comfort and safety, finding new versions of GEZELLIG!

I started working on this series of Dutch house during the intelligent lockdown. Originally made on my iPad, inspired by my discussion with friends and family in Amsterdam, France or California, I rework them now on canvas.

I like to start each artwork by recycling plastics and other materials that could otherwise end up in the oceans. I create an intricate collage of these materials, made of multiple layers they give a lot of texture to my work. I cover this collage with more layers of acrylic paint to help show the texture and seal the collage.

When this background is dry, I paint the house with the feminine figure inside it.

These paintings represent our new situation, our new routines, with the house as the center of everything. Prisons and safe houses at the same time. "Home sweet home" pushed at its extreme.

Recycling is a way to protect our environment, during the past few years many efforts were made to forbid the use of single use plastics. With the virus, these plastics are back in force, masks, gloves, face visors, etc... Despite the circumstances we still have to protect our planet, our home."
