Because of the pandemic, museums and galleries closed their doors, art shows and temporary exhibitions were cancelled, with physical distancing, artists ended up alone in their studios. As a result, the visual art experiences moved online, but it cannot be the only solution, artists want to offer an experience in the real world and the public need to experience it. Now that museums are slowly reopening, it won’t be at full capacity for a little while. This project offers a free plein air exhibition to the people living, working or visiting Amsterdam East, while respecting the 1.5 meter rule.
We're slowly starting to have the right to leave our homes, but the virus is still around.
People who are at risk are advised to stay home. We have to keep our distances, wear masks in certain circumstances (tram, train, ferry...) and limit our travels. This art show is a way to support the population by reminding everybody to keep safe, to social distance, to take care of each others, in a friendly and colorful manner.
Amsterdam East is a large district. This art project would invite the public to discover areas where they usually don’t go and could even make them discover new restaurants or cafes, and support some businesses by bringing visitors.
The exhibition is planned to start in August, a month when usually a lot of people are on vacation, but won’t be this year because of coronavirus. People will be staying put in Amsterdam as the borders won’t be open where they want to go or because they have to work in order to make up for the time and the money lost during the “intelligent lockdown”.
This event was made possible by the Sponsorship of Fonds Voor Oost.
