I just posted a thread in this group about the same problem:

www.flickr.com/groups/ricohtheta/discuss/72157644026086953/

I handled my theta with care. If the USB port is the problem, then I blame the cheap plastic and the "stiffness" of the male/female plug-in bits. It's a shame they didn't make that part of the Theta more "strong". Honestly, I wish I could just wirelessly transfer my full resolution photos. I don't understand why this isn't possible, as it's already allowing previews (at least, on iPhone). IF we could just wirelessly transfer everything, then there would be no problems with hardware.

Also, I found that I had to use the paperclip reset multiple times, and make sure the device was fully charged, before I got it to finally be recognized by my Mac computer.

Also, I hate iPhoto, so I use Image Capture. If you read my thread above, there were many times where the device would disconnect after importing a few photos (I was lucky if I was able to import any photos when the camera started "acting up").

Anyway, I'm just posting this info here just in case it helps others.

I was pretty freaked out when I couldn't import photos. I thought all was lost. If this happens to you, keep trying! Use the reset trick (paperclip into hole at bottom). Eventually, you should be able to get all photos imported.

Also, like Beetlebomb says, HANDLE WITH CARE! :D

I hope Ricoh fixes this problem in its next model. I do love this camera, even with it's annoyances.

Whoa, here's a command line solution to transfer photos (among other things) from the Theta:

That's super awesome! I'd gladly do this to avoid overuse of the camera's USB port. Nice!

Looks like there's even a volume control!!!! Oh, man, I can't wait to hack at this. :)

This is what I use and it works

Go here

And download Basic app- RICOH THETA for windows

I had to right click-open link in a new tab-then it downloaded

Install it then go to file and find your panorama

Navigate via the CLI on your PC to the python examples ricoh_theta directory and review the requirements.txt document for this example before continuing. Several python packages will need to be installed along with the standard SDK:

For Developers: As an additional option, you can configure the ip settings by editing the __init__ function directly in ricoh_theta.py or when creating the Theta() object. These settings are featured below and have been tested on the CORE I/O.

This example takes two different IP addresses as arguments. The --host-ip argument describes the IP address for the computer that will be running the web cam image service. A helper exists to try to determine the correct IP address. This command must be run on the same computer that will be running the ricoh theta image service:

The --theta-ssid argument is used to pass the SSID for the Ricoh Theta camera that will take the images and should have the .OSC removed. This will be set as the image source name for the service. Additionally, if the password for the Ricoh Theta is different from the default password of the camera, this can be provided using the --theta-password argument.

Lastly, a port number for the image service can be specified using the --port argument. It is possible to bypass the port argument and allow a random port number to be selected, but it is discouraged since restarts may result in unexpected changes to a service listening on the old port. This port number will be used with the host-ip (HOST_COMPUTER_IP) to fully specify where the image service is running. This port number must be open and cannot be blocked by a local firewall, otherwise the ricoh-theta image service will be unreachable from the robot and the directory registration service.

Follow the instructions on how to build and use the docker image from this section. The application arguments needed to run the Ricoh Theta application in this example are --theta-ssid THETA_SSID --theta-client --host-ip HOST_COMPUTER_IP --guid GUID --secret SECRET --port PORT_NUMBER ROBOT_IP.

It allows users to capture the area all around them in one shot. Images are then transferred to a smartphone via Wi-Fi where the user can change the size, shape and composition with simple fingertip operations using a free dedicated app. Users can also change the RICOH THETA shooting setup by a smartphone which is connected through Wi-Fi. -Images can be uploaded to the theta360.com dedicated website, and can also be shared on social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr, as well as Microsoft's Photosynth. Spherical images can also be posted to Google Maps and Google+.

By adopting new parts and utilizing a video control program, spherical videos up to 3 minutes in length can be shot. After shooting, spherical videos that have no stitch lines can be enjoyed by processing with the video creation tool*3 in the dedicated application. The image size, shape and composition can be changed using simple fingertip operations.

Videos can be uploaded to the theta360.com dedicated website, and can also be shared on social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr. (Up to 5MB).*3...RICOH THETA for Windows/Mac ( )

*In order to view the videos, RICOH THETA for Windows/Mac is required to convert the videos that are shot separately.

*Video conversion performance varies depending on your computer environment (OpenGL technology).

See theta360.com for details.

-API/SDK will be available for users to develop their own original apps on theta360.com site. You can now create your own RICOH THETA apps, arranging function settings and operation. API/SDK will be released on 14th November and applicable to the conventional model also.

The Theta S is compatible with the same desktop application as the Theta m15. This app lets you view spherical photos and videos on your computer. It also allows you to upload photos to theta360.com, which can in turn be shared on social media or even on the forum (using SPHERICAL BBCode).

Hi, im a noob at this so I apologize if my question is stupid. I want to use a 360 camera like the ricoh theta S (that would be mounted on a drone), connect it to the DJI manifold of a drone that would be running ROS, use a 4g dongle on the manifold to send the data to a desktop computer, and use the video from the 360 camera on a vr headset such as the gear vr or the oculus or any other. Is it possible? How easy or hard it is to do that? Thanks! 006ab0faaa
