This Introductory Yoga course develops beginning and foundational skills for conditioning, flexibility, and endurance focusing on Yoga as an exercise technique. Yoga works on the development of the body/mind with specific Yoga postures, breathing techniques, change of habit practices, and relaxation exercises to obtain greater concentration, self-discipline, and improved physical, mental, and emotional health. The yogic system of exercise allows for different exercises to be modified in a range of difficulty from beginning to advanced. Intensity can be increased over time as the body conditions and adapts to the exercises. This is a Level I & II course, which examines practicing the beginning of a Yoga class, learning the components of a complete Yoga class, and applying Yogic lifestyle skills.
This is an Activities Course and a high level of Participation (70% or more) is essential to Pass the course. Participation is measured by Attendance weekly, as well as homework Activity each week. Online (Synchronous) Zoom meetings and face-to-face meetings also account for Participation, and occasional check-in meetings are encouraged: Calendly Scheduler.

Sacred Space (the Yoga practice space):
As you enter your Yoga space, your practice begins. Focus on being here and now. Begin your practice with a Pre-Warm-up & Warm-up activity every time to help you develop your one-pointed consciousness and to prepare you for a safe practice session. I will take attendance each time you join me for a synchronous practice session on Zoom; you will submit a self-reflection each time you practice Yoga both synchronously & asynchronously. Please pay close attention to your special equipment for Yoga.
A Yoga Kit is perfect for your practice; a mat is required, and a blanket or pillow, a towel, and a bottle of water are recommended. You should use a notebook during your practice to write your own thoughts about what you are doing, in order to Submit a Self-Reflection each time. As people interested in movement, we need to practice the movement often; I hope you begin to practice Yoga more on your own with the assistance of me or the online resources I have provided for your practice this semester. I will see your efforts at increasing flexibility and trying to learn to control your body through your Video Exam Submissions, every four weeks. Please Submit Videos for each of the exams. For your best grade, achieve at least 27 (90% of 30) Participation Points, including 10 Written Self-Reflection Journal Entries.
