Elizabeth Howard was born Sep 13, 1792 in Rochdale, England to James and Elisabeth Butterworth Howard. Elizabeth is a Pioneer of Richmond.
The early history of Elizabeth is unknown. She married William Standage on March 27, 1815 in Petworth, England. They moved to Southwark, England, where only one of their three children lived to the age of three. In 1821, William died, and Elizabeth remarried to William Thackham on May 23, 1822. They had three children before William died in 1828.
In 1834, her son Henry Standage moved to the United States of America to find work. While he was prospecting for lead, he met a gentleman who taught him the principles of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Henry was converted soon after, and began sending letters to his mother. From these letters, Elizabeth was baptized on March 29, 1846, and began her efforts to move to the United States.
The exact date and ship on which Elizabeth sailed the Atlantic are unknown. Elizabeth joined the DanielSpencer/Ira Eldredge Company on June 17, 1847 and arrived in the Salt Lake Valley on Sep 19, 1847. Elizabeth married Joseph Rich, father of Church Apostle Charles C. Rich, on Jan 18, 1853.
After the death of Joseph in 1866, it is likely that Elizabeth went to live with Henry in Richmond. Elizabeth Howard died on an unknown date in 1870 in Richmond. She was buried in the Richmond Cemetery.
