Millie Jane Rawlins was born July 16, 1831 in Apple Creek, Illinois to James and Jane Sharp Rawlins. Millie is a Pioneer of Richmond.
While Millie was young, the Rawlins family converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1844 just before the assassination of President Joseph Smith. They lived in Illinois as long as they could before being forced out my mobsters.
The Rawlins family joined the Willard Richards Company on July 3, 1848 and arrived in the Salt Lake Valley on Oct 10. Soon after their arrival, they moved to Draper, Utah. Amelia married David Carson on July 31, 1853 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
"[Bishop James L. McCarrey] related an incident in the pioneer life of Mrs. Carson and her husband when they lived at... south of Salt Lake City... when George Carson, ...a younger brother of David Carson [was] killed by the Indians, leaving George Carson's widow and tow small children to make their home with David Carson and Sister Carson.... [Bishop] also told of how Sister Carson had weaned a thirteen months old baby in order to raise a younger child of her sistere's to save its life."
The Carson family moved from place to place from 1855 to 1864 before church leaders asked the family to help settle Cache Valley. On July 1, 1866, David decided that Cache Valley would become the family's new home and moved them to Richmond. On June 10, 1874, the family built a farm south of Richmond and dealt with many of the harsh realities of farming and pioneering life.
Millie Jane Rawlins died May 17, 1921 in Richmond. She was buried in the Richmond Cemetery.
