When Mary was eight, her parents were converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In 1861, the Isaacson family sold their belongings and began their journey to Utah. The Isaacson family joined the John Riggs Murdock company on Independence Day, 1861 and arrived in the Salt Lake Valley on Sep 12.
While living in Salt Lake, Mary's father was persuaded by a friend to move to Cache Valley. The family did so and moved to Richmond in 1865. On June 1, 1868, Maren married William Thompson in Salt Lake City, Utah. They first moved to a small home on the west side of town before moving to a small two-story home on State St. Together, they had 13 children 12 living to adulthood.
On Oct 22, 1913, William died from a kidney ailment. After his death, Mary dived the property and built a new home south of the family home.
Mary Ellen Isaacson died Dec 4, 1924 in Richmond from bowel cancer. She was buried in the Richmond Cemetery. Mary's daughter, Inez Evelyn Thompson, wrote the following:
"God made me a wonderful mother
A mother who never grew old;
He made her smile of the sunshine,
And He molder her heart of pure gold;
In her eyes He placed bright shining stars,
In her cheeks fair roses you'd see;
God made a wonderful mother,
And He gave that mother to me."
