Mary Ann Fleet was born Nov 5, 1842 in Sandouville, France to Henry and Ann Hayter Fleet. Mary is a Pioneer of Cove.
As a child, Mary's father fell into the addiction of alcohol and neglected his family. Mary's parents divorced, and her mother remarried to Thomas S. Smart in 1847. Soon after their marriage, the Smart-Fleet family moved to St. Louis, Missouri, for more opportunities.
While in St. Louis, the family was converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1852. The Smart-Fleet family joined the Allen Weeks Company on July 13, 1852 and arrived in the Salt Lake Valley on Oct 12. Soon after their arrival, they moved to Provo, Utah. In 1856, Mary was officially adopted by Thomas Smart and changed her last name from Fleet to Smart. During this time, Mary Ann became acquainted with Andrew Morrison.
In 1860, the Smart and Morrison families were chosen by the Church to help settle northern Utah and named the area Franklin. Andrew and Mary were married in Franklin on March 31, 1862. Sometime in 1876-1878, the Morrison family moved to Cove.
Unfortunately, Andrew died in 1888, and Mary took charge to care for her family. She did so until she became too old and moved to Franklin, Idaho.
Mary Ann Fleet died March 25, 1925 in Franklin, Idaho. She was buried in the Franklin, Idaho Cemetery.
