Elizabeth Wool was born April 21, 1810 in Doddington, England to Moses and Elizabeth Negus Wool. Elizabeth is a Pioneer of Richmond.
The early history of Elizabeth Wool is unknown. Elizabeth married Thomas Hillyard on Feb 8, 1831 in Doddington, England. Elizabeth and Thomas had four children with only two living to adulthood. Thomas died on Jan 27, 1840 in Doddington, leaving Elizabeth to tend to her young family. She opened a store to make means.
Sometime before 1850, the Hillyard family listened to the lessons from Missionaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and were baptized in 1850. Sometime by 1852, Elizabeth married Murfitt Meeks in Cambridge, England. Elizabeth, Murfitt and Elizabeth's daughter Elizabeth sailed on the Golconda on Jan 23, 1853 from Liverpool to New Orleans, Louisiana arriving on March 26.1 They joined the Joseph W. Young Company on June 1, 1853 and arrived in the Salt Lake Valley on Oct 10.
For work, Elizabeth trimmed beets to make molasses. After his son Thomas Jr. arrived in the valley in 1854, Elizabeth did not have to work as hard or often. In 1860, the Meeks and Hillyards moved to Richmond. Murfitt Meeks died Nov 4, 1865 in Richmond, leaving Elizabeth a widow again. After his death, Elizabeth moved to Smithfield, Utah where her son was living.
Elizabeth Wool died June 1, 1891 in Smithfield, Utah. She was buried in the Smithfield, Utah Cemetery.
