William Benedict Gifford was born March 6, 1827 in Mendon, New York to Levi and Deborah Wing Gifford. William served in the Mormon Battalion.
Very little is known about the history of William.
Soon after William was born, his father joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1831. They moved to Ohio, Missouri, Illinois, and Iowa. In 1846, William joined the Mormon Battalion in Company C. After he was honorably released, he made his way to Utah.
It is not certain if William ever lived in Richmond, but his family moved to Richmond in 1860.
William Benedict Gifford died in 1883 in California. It is not known where he was buried.
