John VanCott Eskelson was born March 21, 1854 in Norre Kongerslev, Denmark to Niels Christian and Mette Marie Larsen Eskildsen. John is a Pioneer of Richmond.
Before John was born, his family was converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It took until 1866 for the family to make the means to make the move to Utah. They left Copenhagen, Denmark on May 17, 1866 and prepared the journey in Hamburg, Germany. They arrived in New York City, New York on July 16, 1866. The Eskildsen family joined the Captain Peter Nebeker ox train and left Nebraska Territory on Aug 7. They arrived in Salt Lake City, Utah on Sep 29, 1866. They soon moved to Richmond where John's father became a farmer.
John married Lucinda Jane Richardson on July 10, 1876 in Logan, Utah. They made their first home in Richmond before moving to Cove in 1887. They had 15 children with only 11 living to adulthood.
John VanCott Eskelson died Nov 20, 1937 in Cove, Utah. He was buried in the Richmond Cemetery.
