Howard Milo Egan

About

Howard Milo Egan was born Nov 28, 1868 in Deep Creek, Utah to Howard Ransom and Amanda Ann Andrus Egan.

History

As a young child, Howard helped with what he could do while his father Howard and grandfather Howard worked on the Pony Express in Deep Creek, Utah, near the Utah-Nevada border. In 1870, the Egan family moved to Richmond were Howard's mother's family had settled.

Howard writes about early life in Richmond:

"Being the old's boy, I worked offel hard with father and mother trying to make a liven for the family; we would take a yoke of cattle, go to the top of Nebo and Chop them big trees down, peel the bark off in sections, then we would load this on a cart — then the road down the mountian was so steep... then we would haul it down the Smithfiled to atoney (cannery) that was their trade for shoes to wear."2

Howard married Louisa Clow Hill on Dec 21, 1892 in Logan, Utah. They built a large brick home for their family east of Richmond. They had a total of 100 acres of land, with 50 filed, 40 of which were dry fields, and the other 10 could be watered.

Mines

Howard helped to develop some flint mines east of Richmond near his home. They were hoping to get some good money from them, but the man whom they hired to smelt all the flint ran away with the money. There was also a horrible accident at Left Fork Mine that made it hard to get other workers.1

Church Service

When the Richmond South Ward for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was organized on  Jan 21, 1917, Howard was sustained as the First Councilor of the Bishopric and served for 17 years in the calling.2

Later Years

After a prolonged illness, Louisa died on Jan 1, 1933. On April 8, 1936, Howard married Effie Irene Egan in Logan, Utah. Soon after their marriage, they moved into Richmond.
