Janet Lowe was born April 20, 1852 in Muirhead, Scotland to Thomas and Eliza Galloway Lowe. Janet is a Pioneer of Cove.
Before Janet was born, the Lowe family was converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1850. Soon after, they began preparations to move to the United States to live with the other Saints. They sailed on the Samuel Curling on April 22, 1855 from Liverpool to New York City, New York on May 22.1 The Lowe family settled in Jessup, Pennsylvania in order to obtain enough money to travel west.
The Lowe family was able to obtain enough money in 1861. They joined an unknown company, so the date that they entered the valley is unknown. When they arrived in Utah, they settled in Hoytsville for two years before moving to Franklin, Idaho to live near the other Lowe family members.
Janet married Robert Hughed Dowdle in a polygamous relationship on Oct 3, 1869 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Robert moved Janet and their future children to Cove soon after their marriage.
Janet Lowe died April 26, 1893 in Cove giving birth to her last child. Janet's daughter recalls Janet's last moments.
"I know mother was terribly ill. I was so frightened. I walked quitely towards her room as I entered, I saw her sitting in her rocking chair with her baby cuddled close to her. As she rocked she talked quietly to herself. 'What will I ever do with my baby?... I know, I'll leave her with the girls; she will be so much comfort to them... but they need their schooling. It just wouldn't be fair. Oh I know mother will take her. But Mother's old now. I know I'll give her to my sister... No, I'll take her with me.'
Janet was buried in the Franklin, Idaho Cemetery.
