Emma Jane Howland was born Jan 14, 1849 in Flagg Township, Illinois to Henry and Martha Diana Case Howland. Emma is a Pioneer of Cove.
Grandma Leonard, an elderly woman who lived with the Howlands, would help care for the children while the adults were too busy. Grandma Leonard was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and taught the Howlands the gospel as they spent time together. Grandma Leonard was present for Emma's birth. The Howlands were converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1852. The Howlands joined the John Tidwell Company on June 4 and arrived in the Salt Lake Valley on Sep 10. While on the trail, Emma's father contracted Cholera and died.
To support her family, Emma's mother began teaching school. The family moved to West Jordan, Utah in 1858. In 1864, the Howlands moved to Franklin, Idaho. Emma married Robert Nephi Comish on Jan 21, 1865 in Salt Lake City, Utah, and made their home in Franklin before moving to Cove in 1875.
In 1882, Robert died, and Emma was tasked to care for her family. On April 27, 1887, Emma married John Christian Larsen as his third wife into polygamy. They only had one child together. After all her children married, Emma moved to Franklin.
Emma Jane Howland died Christmas Eve, 1917 in Fairview, Idaho. She was buried in the Franklin, Idaho Cemetery.
