Robert Nephi Comish was born Dec 12, 1842 in Onchan, Isle of Man to William and Elizabeth Keig Comish. Robert is a Pioneer of Cove.
When Robert was young, Robert's father was converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1841 by John Taylor. However, it wasn't until 1848 that John's mother would be baptized. Soon after, the Comish family made preparations to move near the Saints. In 1849, Robert's father and sister moved to St. Louis, Missouri, and found employment to help pay for their family's arrival. The Comish family was finally able to set sail on Jan 10, 1852 on the Kennebec and arrived in New Orleans, Louisiana on March 19.1 The Comish family lived in St. Louis until they could make the means to move to Utah.2
The Comish family joined the John Hindley Company on June 7, 1855 and arrived in the Salt Lake Valley on Sep 3 and settled in Kaysville, Utah. In 1860, the Comish family was asked to help settle Cache Valley, and moved to Franklin.2
Robert married Emma Jane Howland on Jan 21, 1865 in Salt Lake City, Utah and made their settlement in Franklin. In 1875, Robert and his brother John were asked to settle one last time in Cove.2
After the construction of the Richmond Fort in 1860 and other forts in Cache Valley, the Territory of Utah created the Cache Military District on Oct 15, 1861 with Church Apostle Ezra T. Benson as Colonel. Richmond was organized as the 5th Battalion Infantry, with Thomas L. Whittle as Major, David P. Rainy as Adjutant, and Robert M. Kerr and Dana Walton as Captains. On June 16, 1863, Richmond was organized into two companies of Infantry and two squads of Cavalry. Robert was a part of the Cavalry.
While living in Franklin, Idaho, Robert was enrolled in a company under the command of William H. Head. He served as a member of the Home Guard from Sep 14, 1864 to Oct 28.3
Robert Nephi Comish died Nov 13, 1882 in Cove. He was buried in the Franklin, Idaho Cemetery.
