Susan Allen was born Dec 31, 1837 to Andrew Lee and Clarinda Knapp Allen in Kirtland, Ohio. Susan is a pioneer of Richmond and Cove.
At age 10, the Allen family left Kirtland, Ohio, and moved to Nauvoo, Illinois. In 1846, the Allen family fled Illinois and began preparations to move west. In 1852, the Allen family joined the John M. Higby Company and arrived in Salt Lake City on August 13, 1852. The Allen family made a permanent home in Provo.
On Independence Day, 1858, Susan married John Cornog Goaslind in Provo, Utah. John was a divorcee with three boys, though Susan had no part in raising them as they were adults when they were married. The Goaslind family moved to Richmond in 1860.
John was a builder who helped construct a sawmill in Richmond and Franklin, Idaho, and a gristmill in Logan, Utah. Because of this, the Goaslind family moved to these places until 1865 when they moved back to Franklin. In 1876, the Goaslinds moved to Cove.
In 1878, John died, leaving Susan to care for her children, ranging in age from 19 to 1. To make matters worse, their youngest child died just a month after Johns. To help support her family, Susan was able to purchase some land in Fairview, Idaho, and was able to prove it up and sell it for $900. After, she moved to Logan in 1892.
Susan Allen died on April 16, 1924 in Logan, Utah. She was buried in the Richmond Cemetery.
