Clarinda Knapp Allen

Clarinda Knapp was born Aug 10, 1802 in Bethlehem, Connecticut to Calvin and Deborah Hopkins Knapp. She married Andrew Lee Allen Dec 11, 1824 and had 10 children with nine living to adulthood.

Conversion and Travel

In September of 1833, missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints taught the gospel to Clarinda while Andrew was away. She was converted shortly after with Andrew following in her footsteps. They later moved to Kirtland, Ohio where the rest of the Church was. They also moved to Nauvoo, Illinois where they received their Endowment in 1846.1

In 1852, the Knapp family started their journey from Nauvoo to Utah. They joined the John M. Higby Company. The family arrived in Salt Lake City on August 13, 1852. Andrew and Clarinda made a permanent home in Provo.2

Epilogue

After their arrival in Salt Lake, Clarinda's adult children moved away, some moving to Richmond and others to California. After visiting her family in California, she then went to Richmond to see the others. While there, Clarinda sacrum to the elements and died Dec 7, 1862.
