John Buxton Jr. was born to John Sr. and Elizabeth Carnall Buxton on March 23, 1843 in Sheffield, England. John is a Pioneer of Richmond. John is a veteran of the Indian Wars.
Soon after his birth, the Buxton family emigrated to America via the Zetland. After traveling from New Orleans, Louisiana to St. Lois, Missouri, John's mother contracted cholera and died in 1851. The Silvester family that they sailed with helped the Buxton family move west to Utah in 1852. John moved in with his uncle Joseph Buxton in the Salt Lake Valley.
In 1860, John started working with Robert Daft, a gunsmith emigrant. Sometime after, John started working with ranchers in Utah and made his way to Cache Valley. Sometime between 1860-1865, John moved to Richmond. John married Mary Anner Pond March 12, 1865 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
After the construction of the Richmond Fort in 1860 and other forts in Cache Valley, the Territory of Utah created the Cache Military District on Oct 15, 1861 with Church Apostle Ezra T. Benson as Colonel. Richmond was organized as the 5th Battalion Infantry, with Thomas L. Whittle as Major, David P. Rainy as Adjutant, and Robert M. Kerr and Dana Walton as Captains. John was appointed a Private.
In 1870, the Buxton family moved to Lewiston, Utah. John Buxton Jr. died Feb 3, 1924 in Driggs, Idaho. He was buried in the Bates, Idaho Cemetery.
