The Bateman family moved to Nauvoo, Illinois sometime between 1841-1842. After the death of Church President Joseph Smith in 1844, the family took refuge in Mount Pisgah, Iowa where two of the Bateman children died. The family joined the Brigham Young 1848 Company to move west. They arrived in the Salt Lake Valley on Sep 20, 1848, where they lived for two years before moving to Cedar City, Utah in 1850-1851. They are among one of the first families to move to Cedar City.

Likely, after the death of Joseph in 1855, she moved with her family to Richmond, where she spent the rest of her life.
