Fred Edward Amundson

Fred Edward Amundson was born April 7, 1924 in Maple Grove, Wisconsin to Heldfred and Alina Olsen Amundson. Fred was a veteran of World War II.

History

Fred grew up on the Amundson family farm and attended school in Maple Grove. While a senior at Barron High School, Fred was able to build a working tractor out of an old 1928 Erskine, the farms first tractor.1

Fred was drafted into World War II on March 5, 1945 for the Army. He was sent to Fort McClellan, Alabama, Fort Benning, Georgia, and Fort Orde, California. He was discharged on Dec 18, 1945.1

After his service, he was invited by his friend Donald Burger to find work at Yellowstone National Park in 1948. He worked for just a season before working add jobs in the western United States. At one point, he met John Powell from Roosevelt, Utah and started a propane business. While working in the business, Fred also attended school to get his plumbing license and passed the test for his license in 1950.1

While in the business, John steered Fred toward the young adults of Utah, meeting Edith Mary Hardinger of Roosevelt. While the two were corting, Fred was converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and baptized on Oct 26, 1952. The two were married on May 29, 1953 in Roosevelt.1

After their marriage, the Amundsons moved to Salt Lake City, Utah in 1955, then to Logan, Utah in 1969.2 They moved to other cities in Utah, such as Vernal, Roy, Franger, and one point, Richmond.3 While in Richmond, Fred was recognized as a Hero by the Richmond Lions Club.2
