Richmond South Ward
History
The Richmond South Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was organized on Jan 21, 1917 in a meeting held in Smithfield, Utah with George A. Smith and James E. Talmage of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles presiding. The first meeting was held on Jan 28, 1917 at the old Scandinavian Meeting House. The South Ward attended their meetings in the old Scandinavian Meeting House until 1923 when a larger building was built known today as the Old South Ward Building. After the building was destroyed in the 1962 Earthquake, the South Ward started attending their meetings in the Stake Center in 1963.
In the 1980s, the North and South wards were divided into four wards with each ward being referred to numbers instead of geography: Richmond 1st Ward, Richmond 2nd Ward, Richmond 3rd Ward, and Richmond 4th Ward. The Richmond South Ward was dissolved at this point.
