The Newell F. & Anna S. Bullen Home is a historic home located in Richmond. The house was constructed in 1905. In 2004, the home was nominated to be added to the National Register of Historic Places. It has served the shortest time on the register of only 4.8 months.
Newell Francis Bullen was born Sep 1, 1884, in Richmond to Newell and Marion Drucilla Pew Bullen. Newell married Anna Leonre Stoddard on May 17, 1904.
The Bullens purchased the property of the later home from Lorin A. and Laura Liona Rees Merrill in 1905. Soon after, the Bullens constructed the home. Though they had this home, according to family histories, they also had a home and farm on the west side of town. The Bullens lived in the home until 1912, when they sold it to F.G. Robinson, who sold the home a year later to Ute Elon Griffin and his wife, Millie Lloyd Redford. They lived in the home until 1920, when they sold it to half-brothers Adrian Alfred and Nathan Dorris Merrill. In 1928, Adrian deeded the home to Nathan. Nathan sold the home in 1942 to William E. Johnson. Between 1942 and 1993, the home had multiple owners. The current owners of the property purchased it in 1993.
In 2004, the home was nominated to be added to the National Register of Historic Places. The home was approved on July 16, 2004, along with 13 other buildings. However, on Dec 8, 2004, the home was denied approval to be added to the register due to "The National Register reviewer felt that the architectural integrity of the building had been compromised and that the historical significance did not justify listing in the Register." It has served the shortest time on the register of only 4.8 months.
